As the economy is improving everywhere in the United States, it is still a struggle in California. The worse city with economic decline is Riverside, California, where unemployment rate goes up to 14 percent and net migration projection is 4500 people leaving.
In my city, Sacramento, CA, the unemployment rate is about 12 percent which is not as worst of the city such as Stockton and Riverside. Even though Sacramento CA is the capital of California, lots of things needs to be done to get it back on track. More jobs are needed. “Struggling housing markets, state government cutbacks, combined with economies that lack industrial diversity and are heavily dependent on low-wage industries, such as agriculture, will hold back job growth.” So says Celia Chen, a senior economy director. Hopefully many jobs will be created to boost California’s economy like the rest of the United States.

HJ Healthy Way is a student-run business at our school (Hiram Johnson). Our mission is to promote healthy eating habits by selling 10lbs bag of fruit for 10 dollar each. 2 dollar from every 10 lbs bag ordered is given back to the school, while students gain valuable business experience and potentials to earn scholarships. Compare to the store, our fruits are very fresh and organically grown. By ordering fruits through us, it will save our customers a trip to the store and picking out fruits.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, we have business meeting in which we are separated into different business units. The business units consist of Finance, Operation Relationship Management, Human Resource, New Venture, and Marketing. Each unit has a separate task that must be accomplish every week. By organizing ourselves like this, we will surely succeed and expand.

Sage is a competition that provides students from high schools all over the world an opportunity to compete with each other through business and social venture. At the end of the school year, students team from different school showcase their business on a regional and national stage. Before going through the presentation, students undergo intensive training in a team of three to five members. With guidance from mentors, the team must complete an entrepreneurship and one community service venture business during the year in order to present. This competition will help students build their resume for things such as college or scholarships.
This year I am participating in the SAGE competition with HJ Healthy (a student run business at Hiram Johnson) members. Our social venture business will be HJ Healthy Way and our business is currently undecided. As of right now, we are preparing for this competition with the help of many advisors and mentors such as Chico State Mentors. We have been told that in order to ace this competition, we must devote a lot of time and effort. Knowing the business well is the critical key to victory. This year SAGE is very crucial on Questions and Answer during the presentation competition. The question can be as simple as who helped you started the business or as complex as how do you run this business. Always think positive, we will win!

A massive 8.9/9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean nearby Northeastern Japan at around 2:46pm on March 11 causing damage with blackouts and fire. Japan was struck again 1 day after with an aftershock that raises tsunami. The tsunami struck without a warning, leaving thousands homeless. The disastrous tsunami blew out a nuclear power plant, threatening radiation spreading throughout Japan and the area surrounding it. California is on alert of these radioactive activities because it could be lugged to California through clouds and wind.
Relief effort is being made throughout the country. Foreign country such as the United States sent 8 warships to assist Japan’s relief effort. This could be one of Japan’s worst disaster yet.

Hi there, I’m a Hiram Johnson Warrior. Our school revolves around many small learning communities. In my blog I will be focusing specifically about the business academy. It will involve typical activities in the JCBA (Johnson Corporate Business Academy) classes. In JCBA, we are learning how the rugged business world works.
This year I learned many things in Mr. Brown class (a computer/business class) from computer graphics to business stock markets. We will, in the near future, start a small business about wonderful products that we thought of in his class. We are hoping to gain much business experience in starting this new fresh business.
